Ansu Fati is on the comeback trail and had been expected to make his first Barcelona appearance of the season on Sunday against Girona in La Liga.
The forward has been sidelined after picking up a foot injury in pre-season but has been back in training and is pushing for a place in the squad.
However, manager Hansi Flick may now err on the side of caution and opt not to use Fati against Girona after all, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The Barcelona boss has been told by his staff that Fati would be better off doing “several complete training sessions” with the group before returning to first-team action.
Fati may therefore have to wait until next week when Barcelona face Monaco in the Champions League and Villarreal in La Liga before making his comeback.
The Barca boss does seem to be keen to give the forward a chance to impress this season, but you can understand the club’s desire to be cafeful with Fati given his injury history.
