Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel has confirmed the club wanted to re-sign Eric Garcia over the summer but Barcelona refused to let him go.
Eric spent last season with Girona and enjoyed himself in a fine campaign for Michel’s side who qualified for the Champions League.
However, he’s back with Barcelona this season despite Girona’s attempts to land him on a permanent basis.
“We wanted him to come back, to help us have a competitive team,” Carcel told a press conference.
“If we had had him this year it would have been an excellent signing. We spoke to Barça and asked for him. I have always thought that Barça did not want him to leave. I have asked, I have tried, but in the end it was not to be.”
Eric has gone on to feature in three of Barca’s four La Liga games so far this season and will hope to play an important role for the club as the campaign progresses.
