Barcelona announced on Monday that Aitana Bonmati has committed her future to the club and signed a new contract that runs until 2028.
The current women’s Ballon d’Or holder had been wanted by Women’s Super League side Chelsea but is staying with Barcelona and will hope to add to her trophy collection over the next few years.

Here’s Barca’s official statement:
“History continues. FC Barcelona have agreed terms for Ballon d’Or holder Aitana Bonmatí to remain at the club until 30 June 2028, showing just how much faith the club has in a player who joined when she was just 13 in 2011.
“At 2.14pm on Monday, the player put pen to paper in the company of her family, president Joan Laporta, the director responsible for women’s football, Xavier Puig, and the sporting director of women’s football, Marc Vivés.”
Aitana has already won everything on offer with the game and enjoyed a sensational season last year as Barca Femeni won the quadruple.
In total, Aitana has scored 96 goals in 275 gmaes, meaning she’s not too far off hitting a century of strikes for the Catalans.
She has also picked up 23 trophies but it would be a massive surprise if she didn’t land a few more between now and the end of her contract in 2028.
