Barcelona have finally received some good news on Frenkie de Jong after seeing the Dutchman spend the last five months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

De Jong has ruled out undergoing surgery on his injury, with the midfielder believing an operation is not guaranteed to solve his problems.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting that the Dutchman has had “very good sensations” in the last few days during his individual training sessions.

The midfielder has informed the club and the plan is now for him to finally return to first-team training next week.

De Jong has been working with the physios at Barca doing “sprints, turns, ball control and passing exercises completely normally.”

The next step is for him to return to some light training, as Ansu Fati and Gavi have been doing, and then work with the entire group.

There’s still a little way to go before De Jong will be ready to play, but it seems the midfielder is finally getting somewhere after a really frustrating time on the sidelines.
