Barcelona boss Hansi Flick hailed Lamine Yamal’s first goal against Girona as “incredible” as he analysed his team’s 4-1 win on Sunday.

Yamal put Barca ahead when he pressed David Lopez, won the ball off the defender and then coolly smashed the ball past the goalkeeper.

Flick, who we all know loves his team to press, admitted after the game he had really enjoyed the opener.

“The season has just started. We played very well, focused, concentrated... we knew that if we gave them space we could combine,” he told reporters.

“We pressed very well. The first goal was incredible. Very beautiful. We deserved the victory. It was a tough game. Girona plays very well. But we started very well and I think we deserved the victory.”

Flick also revealed what he told his players at half-time. Barca went in 2-0 up at the break but ended up 4-1 victors.

“At half-time I told them that they had to run into space and that’s how Olmo’s goal came about,” he added.

“I’m very happy with the team and the way they play and train. Pedri came to hug me after scoring his goal because before the match I told him that he was going to score today.”

Flick has now guided Barcelona to five wins from their first five La Liga games. Next up, it’s the start of the Champions League and a trip to Monaco.
